(The AEGIS Alliance) – An age 77 ex-mayor who is also a bishop with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was apprehended by police and is implicated in the sex abuse of a number of victims over a span of decades.
The ex-mayor of West Bountiful City, Utah named Carl Johnson purportedly abused youngsters as youthful as 2 years of age. Police managed to get in touch with 3 victims that were purportedly abused between 1985 and 1996 while they had been between the ages of 5 and 12 when Johnson was in a “position of trust” over them, according to KTVX-TV.
Johnson additionally confessed to engaging in inappropriate contact with more victims than the 3, approximating that there were actually greater than 6 victims.
A sworn statement by authorities states, “In all of these cases, the victims were told not to tell anyone else about what happened to them. In some cases, these crimes were suppressed in one way or another by Johnson when any disclosures were made. Johnson used his position of trust to influence any disclosures.”
Johnson was put behind bars at the Davis County Jail on September 7 for a number of charges that include aggravated sexual abuse of a child, booking records indicate. He continues to be jailed with no bond.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints composed a letter to KUTV that reads, “The allegations against this individual are serious and deeply troubling. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has no tolerance for abuse of any kind. Those who engage in abusive behavior are rightfully subject to prosecution by legal authorities and also face loss of Church membership.”
The investigation into the case is still ongoing, and the Davis County Sheriff’s Office has pleaded to possible victims of Carl Johnson’s abuse to please come forward.
