Chelsea Manning is 30-years-old, and filed her candidacy statement with the Federal Election Commission during Thursday.
Chelsea Manning is transgender and a former Army private who had been convicted of passing sensitive government documents over to WikiLeaks. She came out as transgender after being sentenced to thirty five years in prison. President Barack Obama granted clemency to Manning last year after she’d served seven years in prison.
Manning will be running as a Democrat and will be challenging the two-term Sen. Ben Cardin in the primaries.
Manning has yet to file for the primary election with the state elections board, which must be done in person by February 27th, according to the state election board’s website.
Senator Cardin has also yet to file. Although, campaign finance reports reveal that his campaign had nearly $2 million cash on hand during late September of 2017.
Chelsea Manning is running for Senate. It’s worth remembering what her leaks actually exposed, because it was a long time ago, and a lot of people have sort of moved on. But she showed unbelievable courage to do what was right. Here’s an old video I did on her leaks. https://t.co/oXxrBnjcef
