Grandma thought she was texting Robert De Niro, but her granddaughter knew it was a scam, ‘I couldn’t stop laughing’

A technologically adept granddaughter saved her grandmother from falling for an internet impostor. Under the guise of renowned actor Robert De Niro, the con artist preyed on Gina Morgan, a 76-year-old resident of South Wales.

Morgan spoke with the impostor “Godfather” on Facebook for a considerable amount of time (Caters News). She was unfazed by red carpet pictures, usernames like “Robert De Niro page,” or the con artist’s attempt to sell her exclusive “membership cards”—a move that would have seemed out of place on “Goodfellows” with Jimmy Conway.

“That’s not Robert De Niro!” In a video showcasing the messages, Shannon Rich, Morgan’s 28-year-old granddaughter, exclaims.

“Well, who is it?” Morgan responds, making light of the circumstance.

According to Caters, the scam attempted to con the elderly person out of $500 for a fake “VIP fan card” that promised special access to De Niro, including video chats, phone calls, and even a personal visit. She was sent messages with a choice of “three types of membership cards,” and the con artist claimed to be able to “connect” her with their “manager” in order to obtain one.

Even though Rich finally stepped in, she thinks her grandmother would have realized something was wrong before any serious harm was done. Morgan’s suspicion regarding the “De Niro” pictures with tuxedos suggests her underlying cunning.

“Some people online were concerned about her, but my nan is smart enough not to give out any personal details,” Shannon Rich cautioned. “Nan was showing me the messages on Facebook from a fake Robert De Niro profile, and I couldn’t stop laughing.

This incident serves as a warning about the increasing danger of internet scams, especially those that prey on the elderly. With the development of advanced technology, it is essential to exercise caution in order to shield vulnerable populations from these crafty schemes.
