Colorado Bank Robber Threw Cash in the Air at Passersby While Shouting “Merry Christmas”
DENVER, COLORADO – A Colorado man who has a white beard was held by authorities on a $10,000 bond for allegedly robbing a bank in Colorado then tossing the stolen money at passersby while yelling out, “Merry Christmas,” according to police and local news KKTV on Tuesday.
65 year old David Wayne Oliver was placed under arrest while he was at a Starbucks coffee shop nearby after he robbed the Colorado Springs Academy Bank in the afternoon on Monday, a police report reveals.
Mr Oliver made threats that he’d use a weapon and exited the bank with an undisclosed amount of money, according to police.
Eyewitness Dion Pascale recalled that Mr Oliver steeped out of the bank and threw cash “all over the place,” according to KKTV.
“He started throwing money out of the bag before he yelled, ‘Merry Christmas,'” KKTV quoted Pascale saying.
Pascale mentioned that bystanders grabbed some of the cash and returned it to the Academy Bank while Oliver strolled over to Starbucks, took a seat and seemed like he was waiting to be arrested by police, KKTV reports.
Police said thousands of dollars are still missing, and added there is not indication that Mr Oliver was using a weapon during the heist, according to The Denver Post.
Police took Mr Oliver’s mug shot photos which shows he has grey and white hair and a full white beard. Mr Oliver is currently being held by police at the El Paso County jail and he’s due to have his first court appearance on Thursday, according to jail records. It is unclear if David Wayne Oliver has an attorney.
