(The AEGIS Alliance) – Millions of dollars worth of jewels and precious jewelry got stolen during an armored vehicle break-in this past week in the Antelope Valley, officials pointed out on Sunday.
The Brink’s vehicle got robbed on July 11 during the morning hours in Lancaster, Dana Callahan mentioned, who is a spokeswoman for the security business.
The goods had been loaded onto the vehicle late on July 10 adhering to a display organized by the International Gem and Jewelry Show south of San Francisco in the area of San Mateo, Brandy Swanson stated, the group’s director. It was heading to an activity happening at the Pasadena Convention Center, she pointed out.
Swanson mentioned between 25 to 30 bags were actually stolen, consisting of an unidentified amount of individual items. She stated that 18 victims had reported greater than $100 million in asset losses. Callahan claimed it was under $10 million.
“According to the information the customers provided to us before they shipped their items, the total value of the missing items is less than $10 million,” Brink’s stated. “We are working with law enforcement, and we will fully reimburse our customers for the value of their assets that were stolen, in accordance with the terms of our contract.”
Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Los Angeles, pointed out the break-in occurred in the desert urban area of Lancaster in northern Los Angeles County. Eimiller said the bureau agency was actually collaborating with local area authorities, however, she was unable to give additional details.
A dispatcher with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department that patrols the Lancaster area was unaware of the investigation as of Sunday.
Swanson stated merchants that journey between jewelry events usually underinsure their goods due to the fact that they cannot afford to cover it completely.
“That’s where the discrepancy comes in. These are mom-and-pop operators,” Swanson said. “They’re devastated. Some of these people have lost their entire livelihoods.”
The International Gem and Jewelry show hosts around 45 shows across the country annually, she mentioned.
