Ex-NYPD drug dealing cop who allegedly sold fentanyl on duty, indicted on drug charges
After being detained in October of last year, a former NYPD officer is now being prosecuted for allegedly selling heroin and fentanyl while still employed.
Grace Rosa Baez, 37, of the Bronx, and Cesar Martinez, 42, of Yonkers, were indicted by Manhattan prosecutors. This week, both entered not guilty pleas to the allegations of drug distribution conspiracy, according to Southern District of New York U.S. Attorney Damian Williams.
According to court documents, between October 9 and October 19, Baez allegedly tried to sell the drugs to an undercover source. The March 20th indictment describes how Baez gave the informant a sample of purportedly high-grade fentanyl wrapped in a Mentos candy container. Then, according to reports, she talked about haggling over a price for 800 grams of pure fentanyl and made an offer to sell a kilogram of heroin for $25,000.
The documents also disclose that Baez, who enlisted in the NYPD in 2012, met with the informant on several occasions. After being arrested, Baez, who had previously been an outspoken supporter of her position as an officer, left the force. She is currently being monitored electronically from her home, and Martinez is still being held without being allowed to leave jail.
