The bill intends to forbid outlet stores with a minimum of 500 staffers from placing toys and various other kid-related products into different sections that are marked for boys or girls, according to the Los Angeles Times.
“In the state of California, where we hope to inspire, for example, more girls to get into science and engineering and mathematics, we want to ensure that those periodic tables and dinosaurs are not in the boys’ section,” clarified Evan Low, a state assembly member that co-wrote the bill. “We just want to let kids be kids.”
The bill would likewise stop stores that meet the size requirements from marking particular products based upon gender with signs in their shops.
The proposal is presently in the committee phase and would come to be active on the very first day of 2024 if the legislature eventually authorizes it.
