New York bus left split in two, dangling from expressway after Bronx crash

(The AEGIS Alliance) – THE BRONX, NEW YORK – A bus in New York City was left dangling from a freeway overpass after it crashed off the Cross-Bronx expressway, according to New York Emergency Management on late Thursday night.

Seven individuals sustained minor injuries from the crash, a police spokesperson informed NBC New York. The fire department confirmed there have been a number of units on the scene. All of the injured had been bus passengers. They have since been transported to a local hospital.

New York council member Mark D. Levine tweeted that emergency services had sealed off the area in response to the incident. The NYEM agency said a bus collision had happened in the area of University Avenue on the Cross-Bronx expressway and urged people to keep away from the area.

Footage of the hanging suspended bus posted on social media confirmed the bus split alongside the articulation joint, with the front end of the bus balancing on the street beneath whereas the back of the bus stayed on the overpass above. It was unclear how many individuals had been on the bus, or the number of people who were injured.
