The Tehran Times went further and claimed Israeli operatives had discussed an attack on U.S. assets. That specific “U.S. soil” plot was never independently verified. The motive those pieces named — a patron army that needed a reason — did not require a planted crater in Ohio. It required a first strike and a phone call.

Benjamin Netanyahu has been selling an imminent Iranian bomb since the 1990s. He used the same certainty before the 2003 Iraq war. The IAEA has not confirmed an active Iranian nuclear weapons program on the timetable those speeches required. A leaked Defense Intelligence Agency assessment after Midnight Hammer found the June strikes set the program back months, not the “obliteration” claimed in Washington.

February 2026 made the pattern official

On February 28, 2026, the United States and Israel opened a larger campaign — Epic Fury in Washington, Roaring Lion in Israel — against Tehran and sites across Iran. Iran later accused Israel of false-flag shots at Diego Garcia and at Turkish airspace. Those claims are contested. What is not contested is who started both wars and who joined. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned the renewed strikes. Legal scholars called the U.S. attacks a violation of Iranian sovereignty. Gaza never left the room
