Kruger Rangers Say a Suspected Rhino Poacher Died Under a Breeding Herd of Elephants Near Phabeni

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK, SOUTH AFRICA — Field rangers on an anti-poaching patrol near Phabeni on April 17, 2021 found a suspected rhino poacher dead under a breeding herd of elephants. SANParks media specialist Isaac Phaahla said the man was part of a poaching group. Rangers spotted the group. The suspects ran. They ran into the herd. One man did not get up. An accomplice was arrested by the South African Police Service. SANParks put it on the record the next day.

Kruger has spent years losing rhinos to rifles and axes.
