Real Estate is big money in South Florida as well as the pharmaceutical industry all of which Governor Rick Scott has his hands involved in. Marceno has called the kickback claims “completely false.”

In June 2026, the Ethics Commission extended the investigation by 60 days to dig further into the payments to Marceno Sr., who died in December 2024. The FBI walked away.
