Ghislaine Maxwell Was Arrested in New Hampshire. She Is Still Serving 20 Years After a Judge Called Her Latest Appeal Frivolous
NEW HAMPSHIRE — FBI agents took Ghislaine Maxwell off a Bradford property around 8:30 a.m. on July 2, 2020. The British socialite who recruited girls for Jeffrey Epstein had spent a year in hiding after he was found dead in the Metropolitan Correctional Center.
The indictment said she helped Epstein “recruit, groom, and ultimately abuse” girls as young as 14, from 1994 to 2004. Four sex-trafficking counts. Two perjury counts. Acting U.S. Attorney Audrey Strauss told Prince Andrew to sit down with investigators. He did not.
On December 29, 2021 a Manhattan jury convicted her of five felonies, including sex trafficking of a minor. On June 28, 2022 Judge Alison Nathan sentenced her to 20 years and a $750,000 fine. She has never apologized to the women who testified.
The Second Circuit affirmed in September 2024. The Supreme Court refused her case on October 6, 2025. She was moved from FCI Tallahassee to a minimum-security camp in Texas after Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche interviewed her in July 2025 — a transfer victims’ lawyers called a gift. In June 2026 House Judiciary Democrats visited FPC Bryan and said Blanche blocked answers about a camp that normally bars sex offenders. On August 25, 2026 Judge Paul Engelmayer rejected her habeas bid to vacate the conviction, calling the claims meritless, rambling, and built on “speculation, distortions, and/or outright falsehoods.” He warned further appeals would not be taken in good faith. She remains eligible in 2037.
The Epstein Files Transparency Act forced more than 3.5 million additional pages out of the Justice Department on January 30, 2026. Those files incriminated her. They did not free her. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor lost his titles on November 3, 2025 and was arrested February 19, 2026 on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
