A Santa Maria Valley resident who kept a mailbox at the Los Alamos Post Office had been hit more than once. She stopped treating the thefts as bad luck. The Sheriff’s Office identified the suspects as Virginia Franchessca Lara, 27, of Santa Maria, and Donald Ashton Terry, 37, of Riverside. Both were booked into the Northern Branch Jail. Following a stranger to a driveway with a baseball bat is not. The Santa Maria arrest worked because the map stopped at a block and uniforms took the next step.
The same consumer gadget has been used in porch-pirate stings and, in some cities, handed out by police to help recover stolen cars.
