In early March of 2016, We Are Anonymous, Anonymous Legionと AEGISアライアンス shut down most government services in Vietnam for eight days by shutting down Vietnam’s main government server. We shut down an entire country’s government for that long. Most government services were down in Vietnam during that time. Our justified cause was that the Viet government executed a man for spreading Democratic media that was critical of the Vietnamese government, by Democratic media, I mean any kind, FOX, CNN, you name it, just as a general term. Their fishing boats couldn’t fish because the radar on their patrol ships was down. Near the end of it, China had to send in emergency rice rations to Vietnam because of a food shortage that was starting, and that’s when we stopped shutting down the Viet government.

I geolocated a Vietcong admin’s smartphone. We sent a fake Google update, he clicked on it, and we took remote control of his smartphone, then the fake Google update spread to all of his contacts. We then gained access to the Viet main government server. It did some damage to the server and the Vietnamese government didn’t have a backup ready so it took them an additional two days to get all the government services back up and running. We also gained access to the Vietcong server, we then filed some false police reports against their own officials, and a few of them were arrested.

We also had permission from the United States and Canadian governments to do all of this.

Reporters Without Borders placed Vietnam at 174 out of 180 in its 2026 World Press Freedom Index, with 27 journalists in detention. In December 2025, Hanoi moved to make it harder for reporters to protect sources and to expand what counts as a state secret.
