Burbank Nanny Travis Elconin Got 30 Years for Producing Child Sexual Abuse Material on the Job
BURBANK, CALIFORNIA — Travis Elconin used a nanny’s job listing as cover. A federal judge in Los Angeles gave him 30 years for turning that cover into child sexual abuse material.
Elconin, then 35 and living in Burbank, was sentenced to 360 months by U.S. District Judge Terry J. Hatter Jr. after pleading guilty on March 18, 2019 to a two-count information charging production of child pornography. After prison he is on supervised release for life. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California said he exploited at least five children in his care, most of them eight and nine years old. Investigators later identified eight child victims with direct connections to him.
His online ads read like a parent’s wish list. One that agents saved said: « I know how important it is as a parent to know that your children are safe when you’re not around. That would be my top priority. » Families, including friends of his, hired him on that pitch. From August 2016 through November 2018 he sexually abused children in those homes and recorded the abuse on an iPhone 8.
German police flagged him to the FBI in November 2018. Over two years he had sent and received more than 10,000 messages about child sexual abuse, including images, through encrypted apps and the dark web, some of them with suspected offenders in Germany. The FBI, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, and Germany’s federal crime police executed warrants on his devices. He was arrested January 9, 2019.
