Conspiracy of Silence: The Banned 1994 Franklin Documentary Still Circulates by Torrent With the John DeCamp Interview
All copies were ordered destroyed. One survived. The torrent is still circulating with the John DeCamp interview attached.
Yorkshire Television made Conspiracy of Silence for the Discovery Channel around 1993. Producer Tim Tate has said Discovery pulled the plug and reimbursed Yorkshire for roughly half a million dollars shortly before the planned 1994 broadcast. Nobody at either company ever gave a public reason. The film never aired. A rough cut leaked anyway, and that is the version still moving around file-sharing networks.
The documentary grew out of Omaha’s Franklin scandal. Lawrence « Larry » King Jr. ran the Franklin Community Federal Credit Union and, in 1988, was accused of running a child sexual-abuse and trafficking network that reached Washington. A Douglas County grand jury and a federal grand jury both investigated. In 1990 both concluded the ring was unfounded. The county panel called it a « carefully crafted hoax. » Several original accusers were charged with perjury. Alleged victim Alisha Owen was convicted and served about four and a half years. King was never convicted of abuse. He pleaded guilty in 1991 to embezzling about $39 million from the credit union and was sentenced to 15 years.
The film itself tells a different story: religious leaders and Washington politicians flying children to D.C. for sex orgies; kids in Las Vegas and Toronto auctioned with cardboard numbers hanging from their necks. At the last minute, unnamed members of Congress threatened the cable industry with restrictive legislation if the documentary aired. Rights were then bought by unknown buyers who ordered every copy destroyed. An anonymous copy reached former Nebraska state senator and attorney John DeCamp, who passed it to retired FBI official Ted L. Gunderson.
DeCamp pressed the cover-up theory in his 1992 book The Franklin Cover-Up. Witness Paul Bonacci later won a $1 million default civil judgment against King after King declined to defend the suit. Grand jury findings and most mainstream reporting placed the sweeping claims inside the era’s satanic-panic panic. Beyond King’s financial crimes, no named individual was convicted of the alleged abuse. DeCamp died in 2017. Gunderson died in 2011. Readers can weigh the testimony in the film against that official record.
The AEGIS Alliance is not asking anyone to take either version on faith. The point of keeping this file alive is that a television network paid for a documentary about child trafficking among the powerful, then buried it, and the public was never shown why.
