Palestine Fest in Bridgeview did not begin as a street fight. It began as a contract. On Sunday, October 4, 2026, American Muslims for Palestine Chicago opened the fourth year of a family gathering in the parking lot of SeatGeek Stadium, noon to 7 p.m., with food, music, carnival rides, and a bazaar. The village had rented the grounds. Mayor Steven Landek later told the Chicago Sun-Times<\/a> the plain version of that decision. \u201cWe didn\u2019t know the controversy was going to occur, but we go ahead with it,\u201d he said. \u201cWe have the contract, and they\u2019re signed up to use the stadium grounds, and that\u2019s what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n

What arrived anyway was a much smaller group advertising a \u201cPeaceful Crusader Rally\u201d to \u201cstop the Islamification of Chicago\u201d and boycott the festival. Jake Lang, a far-right activist pardoned by President Donald Trump after the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, called it a Christian crusader march. Many in his group wore military-style gear. A far larger counterprotest met them near a gas station by the stadium. Rocks moved. A pickup windshield cracked. Two people needed medical care, and two officers were hurt. A short walk away, the music kept playing.<\/p>\n
