California Nanny Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for Producing Child Porn

BURBANK, CALIFORNIA A former nanny produced child pornography with at least five children and has been sentenced to 30 years in federal prison, according to an announcement by the United States Attorney’s Office of the Central District of California.

35-year-old Travis Elconin who lived in Burbank, California used his job of being a nanny to “exploit and abuse children in his care,” with most of the children being eight and nine years old.

After Mr. Elconin completes his 30-year prison sentence, he is required to be placed on supervised release for as long as he lives, a ruling by a U.S. District judge ordered.

Mr Elconin admitted to producing child porn with four kids when he gave his plea agreement, the children were under his care as a nanny. Elconin was arrested on January 9, 2019, and since then the government has identified eight child victims who had direct connections to him.

Elconin pleaded guilty in March to charges of producing child pornography.

Prosecutors had said Elconin made himself seem like a perfect caretaker to multiple families, including families of his own friends, so he would surely be hired by them.

Elconin had advertisements online, including one found by authorities that reads, “I know how important it is as a parent to know that your children are safe when you’re not around. That would be my top priority.”

Elconin committed these crimes from August 2016 through November 2018, when he sexually abused juvenile children and produced sexually explicit videos of the crimes using his iPhone, according to authorities.

Elconin also sent and received over 10,000 messages that discuss child sex abuse, including images, via encrypted messaging programs and the dark web during two years with suspected communications with sexual child abusers in Germany, according to officials.

The FBI was contacted by German authorities in November of 2018 in regards to Elconin.

The FBI then launched an investigation into the case and was assisted by the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, along with the federal crime police of Germany, Warrants were obtained and Elconin’s digital devices were searched.
