Primary care doctor charged for masturbating in front of age 14 teen girl on flight while others slept

A doctor from Massachusetts has been taken into custody for purportedly revealing himself and engaging in masturbation beside a 14-year-old girl on a flight from Hawaii, while fellow travelers were asleep.

On Thursday, Dr. Sudipta Mohanty, aged 33, hailing from Cambridge, was taken into custody after being accused by the US Attorney’s Office in Massachusetts of engaging in an indecent act during a flight from Honolulu to Boston in May of 2022. The incident occurred on Hawaiian Airlines Flight 90.

According to the charging documents, Mohanty, a doctor specializing in primary care at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, was on a flight accompanied by a woman. He was seated next to a young girl who was traveling with her grandparents.

According to the affidavit, during the middle of the flight, the girl observed Mohanty wrapping himself with a blanket, reaching up to his neck, while his leg continuously moved up and down.

According to the report, she noticed that Mohanty’s pants were zipped down and he was engaging in masturbation until climax while the blanket no longer concealed him.

According to the filing, when Mohanty went to the restroom on the plane, the girl relocated to a vacant seat in a different row for the remainder of the flight due to her feelings of being repulsed and uncomfortable.

According to the affidavit, the alleged pervert and his accomplice were previously engaged in “holding hands and embracing each other. They were exchanging basic questions such as ‘What is your favorite color?’ This behavior struck the girl as peculiar.”

Upon arrival in Boston, the young lady conveyed the distressing event to her relatives, who then alerted the authorities.

When FBI agents questioned Mohanty at his residence, he “appeared visibly nervous in that his hands and voice trembled,” officials noted.

Mohanty refuted the accusations and said, “I have no recollection of that.”

On Thursday, Mohanty made an appearance in a federal court in Boston, where he faced charges of committing a single act that was lewd, indecent, and obscene within the special jurisdiction of the United States, namely in an aircraft.

The offense has a penalty that can result in imprisonment for a maximum period of 90 days, supervision for up to 1 year, and a monetary penalty of up to $5,000.

He was set free based on his own acknowledgment, under the condition of avoiding individuals below the age of 18 and any locations where they might congregate.

According to a representative from Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as reported by Boston.com, the hospital knows about the accusations.

“This individual is on leave and not currently practicing at BIDMC. We are unable to comment further on personnel matters,” the hospital stated.

In a statement, acting US Attorney Joshua Levy noted that “Everyone, especially children, has the absolute right to not be exposed to lewd conduct when they are traveling.

“If you engage in the type of illicit behavior alleged here, you will be caught and held accountable wherever it happens,” Levy mentioned.
