A Baby Died, Child Hospitalized for Head Injuries, Other Kids had Bugs Crawling Out of Their Ears

PHOENIX, ARIZONA A baby died and four other children were removed from a home in Phoenix, Arizona. Some of the children were discovered with “insects crawling out of their ears,” police say.

Authorities with the Phoenix Police Department responded to a call on January 7 at a home for a child who was unresponsive. The 1 month old baby boy was pronounced dead at the scene at around 11 p.m. by Phoenix Fire Department paramedics.

Police also noticed the other 1 month old child started having trouble with breathing. The baby was hospitalized for “traumatic head injuries” and bleeding from the brain. It was found that the baby had multiple skull fractures.

There were five children at the home at that time according to police, which include two 1 month old’s, a 1 year old, a 4 year old, and a 6 year old.

The other three children were removed from the home by The Department of Child Safety. While DCS was performing their evaluation, the other children were discovered “to have a lice infestation, covered in dirt, extremely soiled diapers, and insects crawling out of their ears.”

Investigators were reportedly later told by the 4 year old child that 38 year old Donald Roy Ferguson had thrown the baby who later died, onto the ground. However, the autopsy report was unable to find any deadly traumatic injuries, but there are additional medical tests being performed.

The couple living at the home are facing seven counts of child abuse charges. DCS has previously received several reports of abuse at the home according to court records.
