Viral video shows police charging into Arkansas family’s home, arrest dad for piercing son’s ear

On Thursday, a father from Arkansas was arrested for piercing his son’s ear and is now facing a felony charge.

According to a statement from the police, the confusion ensued during a Tontitown Police Department welfare check, following a report by a Springdale High School resource officer that a student had informed his classmates about his father, who was drunk, choking him and forcibly piercing his ear.

Jeremy Sherland, aged 45, acknowledged that he pierced his son’s ear, but declined to let the officers speak with his son and did not respond to any additional inquiries.

Afterward, the police arrived in larger numbers with an arrest warrant obtained from the Washington County Prosecutors Office, resulting in the turmoil that was recorded on video.

The TikTok video posted by Sherland’s son showed four officers with stoic expressions in the Sherland’s home, pressing the father against the wall and placing handcuffs on him.

In the now-viral video, Sherland’s son can be heard shouting at the officers, “I wanted my ears pierced!”

Amidst the commotion, Sherland’s wife approached the officers and repeatedly questioned why they were present in the house and demanded to know the grounds for her husband’s arrest. Meanwhile, Sherland’s son asked the officers, while they were manhandling his father, “Why are you doing this?”

In the midst of the disorder, an officer clarified to the woman that the father was being arrested for carrying out body art without a license. Sherland reacted with an exaggerated laugh and repeated the officer’s words sarcastically, appearing surprised by the allegations.

Subsequently, the officers endeavored to escort the father out of his residence, but Sherland resisted briefly, resulting in the police pushing him out of the front door.

As the officers escorted the furious father down the suburban street, his wife and son trailed behind, both utterly bewildered by the circumstances.

While moving toward their vehicles with her handcuffed husband, Sherland’s wife yelled at the officers, “It takes three cops, four cops, coming into my house with no permission. No permission and busted in my front door!”

As the officers placed his dad in the patrol car, Sherland’s son shouted at them, “I wanted my ears pierced!”

In Arkansas, it is against the law for artists to perform body art on an individual below the age of sixteen, regardless of parental consent. This violation is classified as a Class D felony.

Since Sherland was not a licensed artist, it was also illegal for him to carry out body art in an unlicensed setting. In addition to the illegal body piercing, the father was also charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, refusing to submit to arrest, and obstructing governmental operations.

Online records indicate that Sherland was able to secure his release from the Washington County jail on Saturday by posting a bond worth $1,500, following his two-night detention.

According to the statement, the officers informed Jeremy of his arrest and clarified the reason for it, but he refused to cooperate. Thus, the officers took him into custody.
