Most, who follow the idea and movement of Anonymous, have heard of the YouTube channel, \u201cAnonymous Official<\/a>\u201d, which is notorious for stealing videos<\/a> created by true Anons, revamping them, then calling them their own work.<\/p>\n

Over the past five years, Anonymous Official<\/em> has gradually gained a monopoly over \u2018Anonymous\u2019 on YouTube. They’ve made a hefty profit off the theft of other\u2019s hard work and accomplishments. Meanwhile, they haven’t contributed anything to the movement themselves. There is no official Anonymous and no Anonymous headquarters.<\/p>\n

These offenses have largely gone unchecked due to the fact that Anons don’t take their battles to the courtroom regarding the infringement. This is a technicality Anonymous Official <\/em>is using to their advantage. But a Bakersfield man actually took Anonymous Official to court once over the copyright infringement of his video, and he won!<\/p>\n

After observing Anonymous Official<\/em> over the years, what initially began as mild gratitude, quickly turned to suspicion. This one channel pumped out \u201cMessages\u201d from Anonymous by the masses, many of which originated elsewhere.<\/p>\n

Sharing videos created by those within the Anonymous movement \u2013 those who are actually trying to bring about change in the world \u2013 is entirely appropriate. Revamping Anonymous videos to make them appear as your own for the purpose of recognition and profit, is unacceptable.<\/p>\n

Through a mixture of over-confidence and hubris, the sole owner of \u201cAnonymous Official\u201d made himself known to us<\/a> through one of our little birdies.<\/p>\n

Where the Channel Stands Now<\/h4>\n

The years since this was published did not slow the channel down. \u00abAnonymous Official\u00bb has continued operating and has grown into one of the largest accounts trading on the Anonymous name on YouTube, surpassing three million subscribers and now directing viewers to the website anon.news. Rather than fading after being called out, it became a fixture, posting a steady stream of commentary-style videos to a mass audience.<\/p>\n

The criticism this article raised has only grown louder alongside it. Independent reviewers and a widely viewed 2023 investigation have described the channel as a content operation built on repackaging others’ material, and commenters who point out that it is not the actual Anonymous collective have reported having their remarks removed. That tracks the central complaint here: a single monetized account presenting itself as the voice of a leaderless movement that never appointed it, while the creators whose work fueled its growth went uncredited.
