Long Island Dogfighting Bust: 89 Dogs Pulled Out of a Ring That Ran Into Connecticut and Massachusetts

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK — District Attorney Timothy D. Sini stood up on August 9, 2021 with the ASPCA, State Police, NYPD, Nassau DA, and two SPCAs and said they had just taken down one of the largest dogfighting rings in New York history. Ten men arrested. Eighty-nine dogs pulled out of yards, basements, and fight stock across Long Island, New York City, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. The ASPCA, ABC7, and the New York Post ran the same ledger.

Dogfighting is not a hobby. It is a business that treats animals as inventory and trains people to enjoy pain. The 89 dogs were the inventory. The ten arrests were the staff. Whether those ten did serious time is a docket question this desk will not pretend a press conference answered.
