(The AEGIS Alliance) – A man died after he leaped from a high-rise apartment building and tried parachuting down, but his chute failed and he plunged to his death in San Diego, California, police stated.
The deadly drop unraveled at about 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday night in the University City area of San Diego. The cops pointed out that the guy’s teen daughter, age 16, witnessed the scene as her 48-year-old dad jumped off the rooftop of the 23-story Palisade UTC luxury apartment building, not far from the UTC shopping mall.
“It’s not just one life lost, it’s another that is completely devastated,” Captain Scott Wahl stated. “Our heart goes out to her and the rest of his family.”
Police were contacted by a witness that explained they heard a “loud pop” that sounded like a gunshot, and afterward located the bloodied man seen on the ground and suffering from blood loss, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
Officers arrived on the scene and paramedics provided the man mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, however, he passed away prior to him being transported to a medical center, authorities said. The man’s identity has not yet been released to the public.
At the moment of his unfortunate BASE jumping effort, he had been using a safety helmet as well as geared up with a parachute that failed to work correctly.
“We’re unclear as to whether the parachute malfunctioned or if it just didn’t have enough time to open up properly and deploy,” Captain Wahl mentioned.
BASE jumping is a prohibited activity that includes parachuting from fixed objects. It’s an acronym for the kinds of ledges individuals jump from structures, spans, and antennae, along with the planet, including high cliffs.
