Mother of Chicago train robbery suspect Zion Brown recognizes him, drags him to police station
A Chicago armed train robbery suspect authorities were searching for has been determined to be a Loyola University student named Zion Brown identified by his very own mom whom apparently dragged him through the doors of a police department to turn himself in.
Age 18 Zion Brown who’s a sophomore student attending Chicago’s Loyola University is facing armed robbery charges following him purportedly robbing around $100 in cash money from a Metra train conductor at gunpoint on mid-day Tuesday, according to CBS Chicago. After realizing that images of a cloaked suspect, viewed gazing into a station surveillance video camera that cops shared and that the media reported were her son, Brown’s mom took him right into a Calumet City police department so he could turn himself in to police, according to CWB Chicago.
The information was disclosed at Brown’s bond hearing in court, where he had been represented by a private defense lawyer that asserted his client was actually famished and had just been trying to find a meal to eat.
Brown had apparently been attending his classes following the armed stick-up, and his attorney talked to the judge and asked to consider her own days as a famished young university student in calculating his bond. Cook County Judge Maryam Ahmad ordered that Brown is to be held in jail with no bond, Loyola Phoenix wrote with the Cook County State’s Attorney Office being cited.
Ahmad turned down the defense lawyer’s disagreement, pointing out that as a hungry young university student she herself would have certainly never desired to rob somebody, and also approved the State’s no bond request.
Brown’s upcoming court appearance is arranged for March 4.
At first, Metra Police talked to the general public, asking for assistance in determining who the suspect was in 2 security pictures at the Van Buren Street Station in Chicago’s downtown area. As the train was pulling into the station at about 2:17 p.m., the pictured culprit that was a passenger, “produced a black semi-automatic handgun and announced a robbery,” authorities pointed out. He at that point purportedly went ahead and stole the conductor’s money and took off running on foot into the station. One image reveals the covered-up suspect wielding a weapon on the platform.

In an interview with authorities, Brown purportedly claimed the weapon that was shown in the course of the robbery was really a BB gun, which he asserted to have tossed into a dumpster in a back alley later on. Brown did not have a previous criminal history.
