(The AEGIS Alliance) – A police officer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been arrested on drunk driving and other charges after slamming his car right into a home, injuring two occupants, one critically, and killing a dog.
27-year-old Gregory Campbell was off-duty when the 2014 Dodge Dart he was driving became airborne and plowed into the house at about 8:20 a.m., the Philadelphia Police Department stated, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
A 54-year-old woman was pinned unconscious underneath his vehicle and was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A forty-five-year-old man inside was injured on his right arm, hand hip, and leg, and raked with road rash on his back, Philadelphia Police Department Commissioner Danielle Outlaw informed WCAU-TV.
One of the couple’s two dogs was killed during the incident, and the second dog was in the care of a veterinarian.
Campbell was charged with aggravated assault, DUI, and related offenses.
“The consequences of choosing to drive while under the influence are enormous, and all too often, life-changing,” Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw, stated, WPVI-TV reported.
“A family should always feel safe in their home, and yet the actions of this individual shattered that reality. The fact that the offender, in this case, is a Philadelphia Police Officer is appalling.
Police Officers must be held to a higher standard – even while off-duty – and I assure the victims and the public that a complete and thorough investigation will take place. My prayers remain with this family.”
