A Grandmother Fell 3 Years Ago, Daughter Let Her Decay on the Floor

SEGUIN, TEXAS A woman in Texas has been arrested by police who say she lived with the decaying remains of her mother in plain sight for the last three years.

According to investigators, they believe Jacqueline Crayton had fallen in the home she shared with her disabled granddaughter and daughter in 2016. The daughter didn’t seek medical attention for Jacqueline’s non-life-threatening injuries. This resulted in Jacqueline dying in a bedroom on the floor at age 71.

According to Seguin Police Chief Terry Nichols during a press conference, authorities discovered the remains a week ago while they conducted a Child Protective Services investigation at the house where the granddaughter and daughter are still living.

49-year-old Delissa Navonne Crayton is facing a felony charge for injury to a child under the age of 15 because police say her daughter suffered from living in the two-bedroom house while her decomposing grandmother’s corpse was present.

Police say the grandmother decayed inside one of the bedrooms, while the mother shared the other bedroom with her teenage daughter. The teen girl is now placed with family members.

This is an ongoing investigation and it is expected that police make additional charges against Delissa Crayton, who’s already facing a fine of up to $10,000 and up to a 20-year prison sentence.

Chief Nichols described Jacqueline Crayton and said she is well-respected in the community. KABB reported that she worked in the local school district for decades.
