Woman pronounced dead discovered breathing at Long Island, New York funeral home

(The AEGIS Alliance) – An unusual incident occurred after an 82-year-old woman was declared dead at 11:15 AM on Saturday at the Water’s Edge Rehabilitation and Nursing Center located in Port Jefferson.

However, after being taken to the O.B. Davis Funeral Home in Miller Place, the police reported that the woman was discovered to be breathing again after 2 PM.

The funeral home staff were stunned by the discovery and the elderly woman was taken to a nearby hospital, as per the statement of the Suffolk County police. The status of her health is not yet known.

The reason behind the declaration of the woman’s death and her subsequent revival is uncertain. It is not known if it was a mistake or if she underwent a medical event that could have led to her revival.

The incident has been forwarded to the New York State Attorney’s Office for further investigation.

ABC 7 NY recently reported that a nursing home in Iowa was penalized with a fine of $10,000 for a similar situation where a hospice patient was declared dead and sent to a nursing home, only to be found that the 66-year-old woman was still alive inside a body bag gasping for air.

The staff member immediately contacted emergency services and the woman was taken to a hospital close by, where it was confirmed that she was breathing but unresponsive.

The woman was then taken back to hospice care and passed away a couple of days later surrounded by her loved ones.
