Louisiana woman arrested for spending $12,000 on DoorDash using her 73-year-old aunt’s debit card

(The AEGIS Alliance) – A Hammond, Louisiana woman, aged 31, is facing accusations of embezzling several thousand dollars from her 73-year-old aunt. The funds were allegedly used to buy food and other goods.

Maili Morris was arrested by the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office on February 16th, after her aunt realized that her bank account was several hundred dollars overdrawn. Upon closer inspection, she discovered that the charges were related to DoorDash.

It has been reported that Morris allegedly utilized her aunt’s debit card to place 136 orders at various retail outlets, such as Walgreens, CVS, Big Lots, Dollar General, PetSmart, along with several fast-food restaurants.

According to reports, Morris is alleged to have ordered $12,000 worth of food and other merchandise between the months of November 2022 and January 2023.

Reportedly, Morris was taken into custody and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. She has been charged with 136 counts each of access device fraud, bank fraud, felony theft, identity theft, computer fraud, and exploitation of the infirm.

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office has stated that Maili Morris’ bond has been set at slightly over $18 million.

Chief Jimmy Travis stated that “Any crimes against the elderly citizens of our parish will not be tolerated, and offenders will be prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.
