Colorado swim coach found guilty of sexual abuse against multiple underage athletes for several years

A coach specializing in swimming for a top-tier team has been found guilty of committing sexual misconduct against multiple young athletes during the years 1997 to 2001.

On April 16, the District Attorney’s Office for the 20th Judicial District of Colorado declared that Jon Beber was convicted by a jury for two charges of sexual assault on a minor by someone in a position of responsibility – consistent pattern of mistreatment, as well as one charge of sexual assault on a minor by someone in a position of trust. Beber was detained without bail and will face sentencing on July 19.

As per the prosecution, Beber served as a swimming coach for the Boulder Swimming Club from 1997 to 2002, during which he allegedly engaged in “inappropriate sexual contact” with underage individuals. The DA’s office stated that Jon Beber resigned and departed Colorado in 2002 following parents’ accusations of his misconduct. Nevertheless, the sexual assault was not formally reported to the authorities back then.

As per the prosecutor’s office, Beber had previously been employed by various swimming organizations in Atlanta, Georgia, Albany, New York, and Florida.

Charges were filed against Jon Beber by the district attorney’s office in 2022 following allegations of sexual abuse from three victims. He was subsequently arrested on these charges in Atlanta, as reported by KUSA-TV.

In relation to the case, District Attorney Michael Dougherty stated that the accused had engaged in sexual misconduct with athletes under his coaching. Despite the time that has passed, and due to the bravery and resilience of the victims, the accused is now being held accountable for the harm and suffering he caused. The district attorney’s office was proud to advocate for justice on behalf of the victims and acknowledges the dedication and effort of the jurors.
